I’m Steve, founder of Cardiff K9 Training.
I know what it’s like to live with a dog who won’t listen, won’t settle, and makes everyday life stressful. You have read every book, watched countless youtube videos but are now even more confused. I’ve been there – and that’s why I’m passionate about helping owners like you.
From first-time puppy parents to owners of reactive rescue dogs. My goal is simple: to give you the tools and confidence to enjoy life with your dog again.
Training isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress, understanding, and building a relationship that works both ways.

With over 20 years teaching experience Steve is a certified trainer with ADTB and has a wealth of experience in getting the best out of dogs. We understand that one size doesn't fit all. Our training plans are tailored to address the specific goals and challenges of each dog and owner.
Our methodology revolves around science-based, reward-focused techniques, fostering a sense of trust and respect within the training dynamic, all without resorting to force or intimidation. This helps you build a strong bond and also have the perfectly trained dog.

Our training methods are based on positive reinforcement techniques. We believe in rewarding desired behaviours, which helps build a strong bond between you and your dog. Our methods are designed to be humane, effective, and enjoyable for both dogs and their owners.
Each training session typically lasts 60 minutes. This duration allows sufficient time for practice without overwhelming the dog. We find this length helps maintain high levels of concentration and effectiveness.
We start training puppies as young as 8 weeks old, focusing initially on simple commands and socialisation. However, it’s never too late to start training, as we offer programs tailored to dogs of all ages and at any stage of their life.
We offer both group training classes and private sessions. Our group classes are great for socialisation and learning in a dynamic environment, while private sessions are ideal for addressing specific behavioural issues or for dogs who may not thrive in a group setting.
Yes, we cover all behavioural modification for various issues including aggression, anxiety, excessive barking and more. We assess each case individually and develop a personalised training plan based on the dog’s specific needs and the owner’s goals.
As the dog’s owner, your involvement is crucial to the success of the training. We expect owners to participate actively in sessions, practice regularly at home, and consistently use the techniques taught. Commitment to the training process is essential for achieving the best results.

Really helped calm the reactivity of my miniature dachshund through giving me tips and ways to teach her what’s acceptable and what isn’t through play and engagement. She loved the training!Posted on Will GunnTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would recommend massively! We have an incredibly pully Labrador, and Steve was able to provide us with the tools and show us how to get her to engage with us when on her lead. He taught us so much more than we thought we needed and if any issues arise in the future, we’ll definitely be going back! Thank you so much!Posted on Charlotte LlewellynTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I reached out to Steve when I was looking for puppy classes for my puppy, Opal, a jack Russell x chihuahua. From the get go I could tell Steve was passionate about dogs, training them early and making sure that we still have fun with them too. From crate training, to potty training.. lead control and teaching us the commands to get the most from our dogs. I would highly recommend his classes, good for puppy socialisation, building confidence in both the dogs and owners. Opal started sessions hiding under my chair.. by the end of the classes she’s was consistently more social with other dogs and people too.Posted on Harry HowarthTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent dog training sessions with Steve at cardiffk9training. I was dubious as I’d been to other trainers regarding my dogs behaviour in particular reactivity and lead walking, I was dreading going out every day . But it was well worth it and now I actually look forward to taking Song (the dog) out.Posted on Nadiaalq 123Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The puppy training classes were fantastic. Steve was very knowledgeable and great with all the pups. It was such a positive, supportive experience, and it made training feel enjoyable rather than stressful.Posted on Lauren JohalTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We did three 1-1 sessions with Steve and our puppy to work on loose lead walking and recall. Steve was knowledgable and provided support inbetween sessions when we needed it. Gus can now walk nicely on lead and go off lead with confidence he will recall. Would recommend Steve to anyone looking to work on their training!Posted on Roger CraneTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great fun, really insightful and the dogs all loved the course. Steve is a brilliant trainer and all the dogs (and their owners!) learned so much. Brilliant 🤩Posted on Alice CohenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I attended the Cardiff K9 puppy classes with my Norwegian Elkhound, who was four months old when we started. As a first-time dog owner with a high-energy breed, I definitely had my hands full and was struggling a bit with the puppy blues. Six weeks on, after putting into practice all the tips and techniques taught in the classes, my fluffy companion is far better behaved and much more settled. It’s also a great opportunity for socialisation with other dogs which I know my boy thoroughly enjoyed. I can’t thank Steve enough and would highly recommend these sessions. I’m actually a little sad it’s come to an end!Posted on Oliver MitchellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fantastic puppy classes. Steve has a magic touch with dogs and he knows just the right thing to say or do so they they listen. Worth every penny and them some!Posted on Marc ReesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We took our recent rescue giant dog to Steve as he was a bit crazy on the lead . He’d been in a shelter for year so had become institutionalised and at 60 kilos was determined to go in whichever direction he wanted . Steve was brilliant straight from the off by showing us how to change his behaviour and manage his pulling , after three sessions he’s a different dog and can walk at heel . We also had one session to work on his recall, this will be a long journey bur Steve has certainly paved the way .
