Our training methods are based on positive reinforcement techniques. We believe in rewarding desired behaviours, which helps build a strong bond between you and your dog. Our methods are designed to be humane, effective, and enjoyable for both dogs and their owners.
Each training session typically lasts 60 minutes. This duration allows sufficient time for practice without overwhelming the dog. We find this length helps maintain high levels of concentration and effectiveness.
We start training puppies as young as 8 weeks old, focusing initially on simple commands and socialisation. However, it’s never too late to start training, as we offer programs tailored to dogs of all ages and at any stage of their life.
We offer both group training classes and private sessions. Our group classes are great for socialisation and learning in a dynamic environment, while private sessions are ideal for addressing specific behavioural issues or for dogs who may not thrive in a group setting.
Yes, we cover all behavioural modification for various issues including aggression, anxiety, excessive barking and more. We assess each case individually and develop a personalised training plan based on the dog’s specific needs and the owner’s goals.
As the dog’s owner, your involvement is crucial to the success of the training. We expect owners to participate actively in sessions, practice regularly at home, and consistently use the techniques taught. Commitment to the training process is essential for achieving the best results.

At the turn of the year after one attempt at finding a trainer for our eight month old cocker spaniel puppy we decided to give Steve a message and book in a block of three lessons to work on his recall and some basic lead work. Even before the first session ended we could already see a drastic improvement in Spencer’s recall and Steve was great in talking to us through what drills we need to work on and how we should interact with the dog to get the best result. With the in person lessons and the support over the phone with Steve in a short period of time we have now got our cocker spaniel Puppy off the lead fully and he is even recalling away from distractions in busy parks. At the end of our block sessions with Steve, we asked if we could have a short go at tackling Spencer’s pulling on the lead. After one session we have seen drastic improvements and will be visiting Steve again to work on this further! We can’t recommend Steve enough, he is a trainer who knows what he is doing and more importantly is very good in working with the owners and tailoring the training to them.Posted on Cierra SloateTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Steve has been able to help us with our working breed puppy. From the day we brought Red home at 8 weeks old to now a puppy class graduate and sit champion. Steve has been really responsive and helpful throughout our entire puppy training. We now have a very impressive 25kg 7 month old Doberman puppy who loose lead walks, all the basic commands down and is sociable with other dogs. We plan to continue our training now going into recall training.Posted on SSHTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very confident and approachable Gives clear instructions , my pup was too fascinatec by other dogs but still got him to do some if not all the commands Steve taught Neec to practice on daily walks and steve is hsppy to provide ongoing advice if necessary too . Useful training , just i could do some one to one sessions.Posted on Bethan PalmerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Steve was brilliant! 3 sessions and our bouncy over enthusiastic pooch is engaged and lead walking like a dream! Her recall has come on leaps and bounds meaning walks are more enjoyable for both her and us! Would highly recommend!Posted on Caitlin MarkallTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Used Cardiff K9 training for my nervous cavapoochon, Steve was great, he understood her behaviours, he advised and taught me how to react to her behaviours both on a walk and at home and how to build on our relationship. Steve also worked with my other cavapoo who needed some better recall and lead walking so that when the two of them are together they are both calmer and not bouncing off each others behaviours. Both of them have come on leaps and bounds and our walks and home environment are much more enjoyable for all. Highly recommend!Posted on DanielleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were struggling with a few things with our new dog (7 months old) ..Not settling, jumping up on people upon entering the house and seperation anixiety, we were unable to leave her for seconds let alone minutes! After using Steves personalised plan over the last month we have managed to combat nearly all of these issues completely and will continue to follow the plan once our girl is out of season and back to her normal self! Steve is super friendly, approachable and helpful - we can't thank him enough and would 100% recommend him! 🙂Posted on Claire EdwardsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Really helped calm the reactivity of my miniature dachshund through giving me tips and ways to teach her what’s acceptable and what isn’t through play and engagement. She loved the training!Posted on Will GunnTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would recommend massively! We have an incredibly pully Labrador, and Steve was able to provide us with the tools and show us how to get her to engage with us when on her lead. He taught us so much more than we thought we needed and if any issues arise in the future, we’ll definitely be going back! Thank you so much!Posted on Charlotte LlewellynTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I reached out to Steve when I was looking for puppy classes for my puppy, Opal, a jack Russell x chihuahua. From the get go I could tell Steve was passionate about dogs, training them early and making sure that we still have fun with them too. From crate training, to potty training.. lead control and teaching us the commands to get the most from our dogs. I would highly recommend his classes, good for puppy socialisation, building confidence in both the dogs and owners. Opal started sessions hiding under my chair.. by the end of the classes she’s was consistently more social with other dogs and people too.Posted on Harry HowarthTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent dog training sessions with Steve at cardiffk9training. I was dubious as I’d been to other trainers regarding my dogs behaviour in particular reactivity and lead walking, I was dreading going out every day . But it was well worth it and now I actually look forward to taking Song (the dog) out.
