What methods do you use in your training programs?

Our training methods are based on positive reinforcement techniques. We believe in rewarding desired behaviours, which helps build a strong bond between you and your dog. Our methods are designed to be humane, effective, and enjoyable for both dogs and their owners.

How long does each training session last?

Each training session typically lasts 60 minutes. This duration allows sufficient time for practice without overwhelming the dog. We find this length helps maintain high levels of concentration and effectiveness.

What age should my dog be to start training?

We start training puppies as young as 8 weeks old, focusing initially on simple commands and socialisation. However, it’s never too late to start training, as we offer programs tailored to dogs of all ages and at any stage of their life.

Do you offer group training classes or only private sessions?

We offer both group training classes and private sessions. Our group classes are great for socialisation and learning in a dynamic environment, while private sessions are ideal for addressing specific behavioural issues or for dogs who may not thrive in a group setting.

Can you help with behaviour problems like aggression or anxiety?

Yes, we cover all behavioural modification for various issues including aggression, anxiety, excessive barking and more. We assess each case individually and develop a personalised training plan based on the dog’s specific needs and the owner’s goals.

What is expected of me as the dog’s owner during the training process?

As the dog’s owner, your involvement is crucial to the success of the training. We expect owners to participate actively in sessions, practice regularly at home, and consistently use the techniques taught. Commitment to the training process is essential for achieving the best results.

Steve was absolutely great at helping us to train our cockapoo to stop barking madly and rushing up to the front door and jumping all over any visitors. He now sits half way down the hall waiting to be invited to greet the visitors. Everyone has noticed the difference and they are surprised that a five year old dog can learn new things!  We found Steve really excellent as a dog trainer and he’s also a great guy with a lovely personality.  Our dog adored him as you can see from the photo. When I first started the training with Steve, I had lost all confidence and dreaded walking her. Now, I am back to enjoying walks with her and feel confident that I have full control. She now also has more freedom on her long line lead, which has made such a difference as she is no longer frustrated by being kept on a short lead every walk. We also worked on engagement which has been a game changer.

The training, help and advice that he has given me for my 7 month old Golden Retriever puppy has been invaluable. The change in my puppy from the first lesson to the last has been incredible. Steve is a genius at what he does. He is very patient and knows his stuff. My dog has learnt basic commands such as sit, stay, eye contact, and find, as well as advice on particular behaviours. My puppy can now run free off lead, and through Steve's help and training, I now have the confidence of recall which is extremely important, when required. I would highly recommend Steve and Cardiff K9 Training to anybody who needs help with their dog, whatever the reason. Don't hesitate to contact him, it'll be the best decision you'll make for you and your dog. I signed up for the 5 lesson package which has been brilliant. The communication before the class was excellent and included a personal phone call with Steve. The location of the class was very convenient for us with good parking and the class size is small which enables lots of input with your dog. Our Reggie was an anxious pup but Steve was really patient and didn't push it with him and his confidence has now grown massively! My rescue dogs reactivity was out of control, I felt like I was failing her, every walk ended in tears and frustration. I lost all confidence and hope and genuinely didn’t know if she’d ever be able to enjoy life, I was in the absolute trenches of dog ownership with no hope at all and now I can look back at those days with so much pride knowing how far we’ve come.
Thanks to steve- I enjoy my dog again, I enjoy walks and I know my dog does too, I no longer feel that I’m failing her- me and my dog are a team and I have confidence that I’m doing right by her. This behaviourist genuinely changed both mine and my dogs life and I don’t know where we would have ended up without it.
